Participatory budgeting in congolese secondary schools

Schools around the Uvira in South-Kivu are using participatory budgeting (PB) to engage students, parents, educators, and staff in deciding how to spend a part of the school budget. School PB develops student leadership, supports student and school success, liftup student and parent voice, and involves the entire school in meaningful civic experiences. Participants learn participating budget by doing it.

Through “DevelopmentCheck.org”, students in DRC can now express on the priorities that are most pressing for their schools and communities. When they have reached an agreement, the schools management devotes a percentage of the school budget to invest to repair the issues selected by the students.
